Learning Resource Centre
Our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) has been open for over seven years,
and has 20 computers which all have Internet access. There is also printing facilities for
both black & white and colour printing. We also have a photocopying machine available.

The Learning Resource Centre is open daily from 9.00 am until 4.30 pm, students
are also able to use the LRC resources during morning break and lunchtimes. On
Monday and Tuesday evenings after college (period 6), the LRC is reserved for the
students who have extra modules, to help with their GCSE and GNVQ coursework.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, the LRC is open to all students who
may wish to stay and complete homework, or perhaps find information for projects
which may have been set.
The Resource Centre has a large selection of both fiction and non-fiction books, and
is home to our College Careers Library, which is stocked with books and careers
information, as well as a selection of videos and CD-ROM's. The computers in the
LRC also have a number of careers programmes installed on them which students
are introduced to in Year 9, prior to making their choices for their GCSEs.

Students in years 8 to 11 are also employed as student librarians during morning
and lunchtime breaks. Librarians are given training on the running of the college
library, as well as being trained to use the computerised library system, by which
the loaning and returning of books, and the booking of computers for students use is
carried out.
The LRC is widely used during the day by both students and teaching staff alike.
Many lessons are held in the LRC, including GNVQ courses such as Leisure and
Tourism, Health and Social Care, where students have access not only to the
computers, but also resources held within the LRC.
Within the LRC area, our Special Educational Needs department is situated. Many
of the staff find it more convenient to work with small groups of students with
special educational needs within the LRC where there is more room, and the
atmosphere is that little bit more relaxed than a normal classroom situation, which
proves beneficial to both student and staff alike.
