Job vacancies
Teacher of French and Spanish
This vacancy is a permanent position starting September 2008.
During 2007/08 a review is to be undertaken of our MFL provision. It is possible that there will be an expansion of our existing MFL provision because we expect to:
- increase the time allocated to the teaching of key stage 2 pupils.
- develop our curriculum innovations at key stage 3.
- introduce new key stage 4 courses such as French / Spanish with Business.
- further strengthen our links with Oldham Sixth Form by introducing A/S level to Year 10 pupils in 2009.
Currently there is a programme director (Ms C Hobbs) and two full time MFL teachers (Miss J McCaffery and Mrs M Hinds). This position has arisen following some recent re-organisation in order to meet the demands of the expansion of the MFL department.
The MFL department currently has three teaching classrooms suited together. It is very well resourced with excellent numbers of textbooks and similar resources. The classrooms all have interactive whiteboards and one also has computer facilities.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach both primary and secondary pupils. Members of the department teach Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils based in three different primary schools – all of which are amongst our main feeder primary schools. We have invested in new specific primary resources and schemes of work to support the KS2 MFL Framework.
Recent changes to our key stage 3 curriculum have led to some exciting developments which will allow the MFL department to create new opportunities for pupils in French and Spanish (our two main languages). In years 8 and 9 we will have both French and Spanish accelerated groups which will take their GCSE exams at the end of Year 9. These pupils will have various options for continuing study of MFL at KS4 as mentioned above. We also have French and Spanish option groups taking the GCSE at the end of KS4.
In order to support our varied teaching groups, we are excited to have both French and Spanish foreign language assistants joining the department from October 2008.
Urdu is also taught to a small group of pupils, leading to a GCSE in KS4.
The ability to teach a second language would be an advantage, as would a clean driving license and own transport.
