Year 7 Girls go to Wembley!
Our Year 7 Girls have a once in a lifetime opportunity at the end of August this year. They have been invited to spend 3 days in London by the RFL for reaching the National Final of the prestigious Carnegie Champion Schools Competition. Little did we know that when we started the team ONLY 7 weeks ago we would be in this position.
The girls have taken part in a number of tournaments and festivals.
The North West Festival Qualifying Day at Cowley High School (St.Helens)
The girls played 5 matches against Irlam & Cadishead (Salford) won 12-0, Loreto (Manchester) won 12-0, De La Salle (St.Helens) Drew 8-8, Haydock
(St.Helens) won 12-0 and Holy Cross (Chorley) won 8-0.
The North West Regional Festival at St John Fisher High School (Wigan)
The girls played 5 matches against De La Salle (St.Helens) won 12-4, Deanery (Wigan) won 12-4, Cansfield (Wigan) won 16-8, St John Fisher (Wigan) drew 4-4 and Holy Cross (Chorley) won 16-0.
The National Qualifying Festival
The girls played 5 matches against Settle (Keighley) won 16-8, St Wilfreds
(Wakefield) won 12-0, De La Salle (St.Helens) won 8-4, Barrs Hill
(Coventry) won 16-0 and in the semi final eliminator they beat tournament favourites Catleford High (Castleford) 4-0.
They will now take on DE LA SALLE (St.Helens) in the National Final for the chance to become the best team in the Country. This game will be played on Friday 28th August 2009 at RAF, Uxbridge in London. The girls will have a Wembley Tour the day before and will be back at Wembley on Saturday 29th August for a pre-match parade around the Wembley pitch before the Challenge Cup Final - this should be broadcast on BBC1.
