Parts of Curriculum Covered

The Design and Technology curriculum in KS3 is taught through mixed ability groups of approximately 20 students for a one hour lesson per week.  Projects and activities are designed to stimulate student imagination and interest to the point when, in year 9, they begin to consider their option choices and future career aspirations.

In KS4 the department offers AQA Product Design as a GCSE course which has grown in popularity since it was introduced in 2004/2005.  Examination results for 2005 are above the National Average.

Additional Information about Department

The department offers a weekly ‘DT Club’, open to all year 7 pupils, which is entirely practical.  It is hoped that this can be offered to years 8 and 9 students in the future and a KS4 club to be set up.  Competitions in school, regional and national are entered regularly.

The Department is currently moving through a period of exiting development and rejuvenation since the introduction of the Laser Cutter which has opened up many opportunities for enterprise, both within the school and to neighbouring schools.  All students will have the opportunity to use the Laser Cutter.
