History
Introduction to Department |
There are two teachers within the History Department. The department has an excellent record of classroom management and of motivation amongst the pupils. The department frequently mentors ITT students where good practice and expertise is shared.
The current history rooms has its own interactive whiteboard and computer facilities. Full network and Internet access is available.

Parts of Curriculum Covered |
All KS3 pupils receive one 60 minute lesson of History per week, taught in mixed ability groups with an average class size of 30 pupils.
Studies through KS3 are:
Yr 7 - Skills work / Romans / 1066-1500
Yr 8 - Tudor & Stuarts / Black Peoples / Industrial Revolution
Yr 9 - WW1 / WW2 / Mughal Empire
At KS4 pupils study AQA ‘Specification B’ Modern World (75% exam – 25% coursework).
Yr 10 - USA in 1920s & 30s / Germany in 1920s & 30s / Role of Women – The Vote (coursework)
Yr 11 - Great Britain in WW2 / International History – Cold War / Arab Israeli Conflict (coursework)
The take up of KS4 History is very high with an average of 3 full classes each year. Additionally, we have two small groups of Gifted & Talented pupils in Yr 10. These two groups are studying an accelerated GCSE course and will take their GCSE exam one year earlier than usual. In September, the group entering Yr 11 will study AS level History.
Examination results are good and improving.
