Introduction to Department

The department consists of three classrooms with excellent resources. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards with SMART board technology, which are frequently used and one classroom is fully equipped with 15 computers all of which are linked to the Internet.

Parts of Curriculum Covered

At Key Stage 3 pupils follow Listos 1 & 2 and Metro 1, 2 & 3.  Internal assessments takes place in the form of end of module tests, and results are tracked on the School Administration system. In year 9 pupils also study a module on Languages at work and The Media.  GCSE pupils work following the Edexcel specifications with the coursework option.  Pupils use Metro 4 for French and Listos 3 for Spanish.

French and Spanish are the main languages taught and a small group of pupils, with prior knowledge of the language, study Urdu up to GCSE after school.

Additional Information about Department

There is a weekly MFL club after school where pupils are given opportunities to correspond with school pupils in France, Spain and South America through the Epals email scheme and in writing. It is hoped that we will be able to develop video conferencing, blogs and pod casts in the near future.

Trips abroad have been previously organised to France, Spain and Germany and it is hoped that these will continue again in the future..
