Introduction to Department

The department consists of four classrooms with excellent resources. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards with SMART board technology and speakers which are frequently used.

KS3 French:
Year 7: Expo 1
Year 8: Metro 2
Year 9: departmental schemes of work, including Health, Media, Languages at Work, Morocco.

KS3 Spanish:
Year 7: Listos 1
Year 8 Listos 1 and 2
Year 9: departmental schemes of work, including Health, Media, Languages at Work, Mexico.

Accelerated groups in French and Spanish take their GCSE at the end of year 9.

GCSE:
Pupils follow the Edexcel GCSE specification, using Expo 4 French and Edexcel GCSE Spanish textbooks.

AS:
Pupils in the accelerated AS groups study the course over years 10 and 11. They follow the AQA specification.

French and Spanish are the main languages taught and a small group of pupils, with prior knowledge of the language, study Urdu up to GCSE after school.

Additional Information about Department

During the Easter holidays 2010 the department ran a successful trip to Paris, including visits to the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, Notre Dame, a boat trip along the Seine and a day in Disneyland Paris.

In July 2011 a Joint MFL and Business and Enterprise trip will run to Madrid. Visits will include the Prado museum, el Palacio Nacional, the Bernabeu football stadium, the El País newspaper head offices and the Warner Bros. theme park.
