The department consists of three classrooms. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and one classroom is fully equipped with 15 computers all of which are linked to the Internet. It is envisaged that a link currently being forged with the ICT department will develop the use of ICT within languages with the aim of fully utilising SMART board technology. Resources are excellent, with OHPs, tape recorders and significant numbers of text books.

Parts of Curriculum Covered
At Key Stage 3 pupils follow Listos 1 & 2 and Metro 1, 2 & 3. Internal assessments takes place in the form of end of module tests, and results are tracked on the School Administration system. At Key Stage 4 pupils use Metro 4 AQA for French. Specification A with coursework is the current model. Spanish is being introduced for the first time as an option; therefore there will be scope to purchase GCSE materials as required.
French and Spanish are the main languages taught although German is also available at GCSE level. Last year a small group of pupils studied GCSE Urdu with a larger group to be entered this summer. The person appointed will be expected to teach both KS3 and GCSE languages.

Trips abroad have been organised over recent years with visits to France, Spain and Germany taking place.
